Suchana Khadka: a Fishtail student since 2015

Suchana is a new Fishtail Fund student. She is 14 and attends Prithvi Rupa school in Talmari, the site which we are planning to rebuild.

This year has been a very bad one for Nepal and its people. First the earthquake in April disrupted families, caused personal distress with deaths and injuries, made people fearful. Schools were closed and examinations postponed and the marking even later than usual.  More recently the Indian blockade caused shortages of food, materials and especially petrol, which meant that some students found it hard to get to their school by bus.

So it’s not surprising that some attendances and results are lacking or down this year.

Suchana’s story is far worse. In the earthquake her house collapsed and her mother was killed under the masonry. Her father was away working in India, but rushed home. Our photograph shows the site. We took on Suchana as a student to support her, and hope that Dronfield School will help rebuild her home.  She gave thanks by performing a Nepali dance when Trustees visited the school.

Suchana is in Year Nine. She achieved a Second Level pass with a highest mark in Science.

We had pleasure in presenting her personally with some messages and gifts from the UK, including a solar lamp and Union Jack pens to help him do her homework in the evening.

Thanks to Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School (Mrs Burke) for supporting Suchana. We will send you an update in 2016.
